Institutioneller Rassismus

Als institutioneller Rassismus (auch: struktureller Rassismus) werden Rassismen bezeichnet, die von Institutionen der Gesellschaft, von ihren Gesetzen, Normen und ihrer internen Logik ausgehen, unabhängig davon, inwiefern Akteure innerhalb der Institutionen absichtsvoll handeln oder nicht. Er kann als ein Gegensatz zum personellen Rassismus verstanden werden, der sich beispielsweise im alltäglichen Rassismus und im Rechtsextremismus in Vorurteilen oder Gewalt ausdrückt.

Institutional Racism

Institutional racism is less overt, far more subtle, less identifiable in terms of specific individuals committing the acts, but is not less destructive of human life. The second type is more the overall operations of established and respected forces in the society, and thus does not receive the condemnation that the first type receives.
